We are pleased to announce we have created a new annual award for members of our girls and women's programme to remember and celebrate the life of Elena Sarra, our co-founding Trustee, who we sadly lost last year.
Elena played a vital role in the establishment of Africa on the Ball and served as a Trustee from its regristration as a charity in 2013 until her untimely passing in 2022.
Elena was passionate about gender equality and female empowerment so it was natural for us to create an award for one member of our women and girls programme who had demonstrated commitment, courage and determination beyond the football pitch.
The inaugrual winner of the Elena Sarra Remembrance Award is Given Beatrice Tembo.
Given played for our K-Town Queens before becoming the coach of the girls programme in 2019.
In 2020 the charity supported for her in attaining her FAZ D coaching license which is an introductory course to coaching and through our partnership with NOWSPAR last year she received her CAF C coaching course enabling her to coach across Africa.
Given has been a great role model for both our boys and girls since joining the organisation and her commitment to Africa on the Ball has been nothing short of oustanding. She is a worthy first recipient of the Elena Sarra Remembrance Award.
